Embryology Team
The Assisted
Reproduction Technologies (ART) Laboratory at Karande & Associates,
S.C. is staffed by experts with extensive experience in assisted
reproductive technologies. All of our embryologists are members
of the American Society for Reproductive Medicine (ASRM).
Dr. Hazlett,
Director of the ART Laboratory, is responsible for all clinical
and research aspects, including: in vitro fertilization (IVF), semen
analysis and preparation, embryo culture, embryo cryopreservation,
testicular and epidymal sperm preparation, ICSI, AZH, blastomeres
biopsy for PGD, and blastomeres fixation for flouresent in situ
hybridization (FISH). In 1995, Dr. Hazlett earned a Masters in reproductive
physiology at Louisiana State University in Baton Rouge. In 1999,
he earned his Doctorate in reproductive physiology at the University
of Arkansas in Fayetteville. Both his Masters and Doctorate research
focused on early bovine embryo development. Dr. Hazlett's research
interests include embryo development and implantation, media formulation,
embryo and oocyte cryopreservation, blastocyst culture, and PGD.
Liza Meyer works
closely with Dr. Karande, playing a key role in the implementation
of our pre-implantation genetics diagnosis program. Liza graduated
in 1998 from Southern Illinois University, Carbondale with a double
B.S. degree in Biology and Animal Science with a concentration in
genetics. In 2000, she completed her graduate work at Northwestern
University in Illinois where she was the lead researcher in pre-implantation
genetic diagnosis and comparative genomic hybridization. She was
simultaneously employed at Northwestern Memorial Faculty Foundation
as a clinical embryologist.
All members
of the embryology team have been published extensively and continue
to be involved in ongoing research.

Nursing Team
The nurses at
Karande & Associates, SC believe in the Team Nursing concept.
They are cross-trained in all areas of the practice. Although for
each nurse there is a primary area in which the nurse is assigned,
we are all able to answer your general medical questions and have
available the resources to assist us with your care. Many of our
nurses are active members of ASRM and its Nurses in Reproductive
Medicine Professional Group.
The nursing
team has worked with Dr. Karande for many years and is dedicated
to the field of infertility nursing. All nurses are trained and
certified in Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS). Other certifications
range from Advanced Fetal monitoring to basic cardiac arrhythmias.
Karande & Associates, SC believes in continuing education and
promotes all aspects of nurses advancing their education and knowledge
in the field of infertility. Our nurses attend, on a regular basis,
annual symposiums and the annual American Society for Reproductive
Medicine (ASRM) convention. Some of the nurses have conducted oral
and poster presentations at these symposiums in an effort to help
in the advances of infertility nursing.

Ultrasound and Laboratory
Technician Team
Daily ultrasound
monitoring and laboratory blood levels are a necessity to any successful
infertility clinic. Our ultrasound and laboratory team members are
highly qualified and certified in their areas of expertise. As is
all our staff at Karande & Associates, SC, they are very dedicated
to ensuring the highest quality of patient care.

Administrative Team
Our administrative
assistants work closely with Dr. Karande and staff to insure quality
patient care. Primarily they are patient scheduling coordinators.
Working around patient convenience and staff availability is considered
one of the primary aspects of excellent patient care.
Expediting insurance authorization for treatment is another important
component to patient satisfaction. All receptionists are trained
in basic insurance policies and are able to answer most insurance-related
questions. All front office employees work closely with the billing
department, which is responsible for all aspects of your insurance
reimbursement process. The administrative team's main goal is to
welcome our patients and make them feel comfortable while in the care of
